Unfortunately that is how they play the game but the 3 majors have to give you one free a year . Check them out and their policies .

annualcreditreport.com
Gives you a free credit report. But if you want your credit score, then you have to pay.
You are right…all the sites that give you a “free” credit score want you to subscribe to something…and then its difficult to cancel.

I am not sure if this will help but you can get a free credit report every year. You can inquire with equifax or one of the other credit bureaus what your score is after recieving your free credit report. I am not sure if there is a charge for that. But at least you will have your credit report. The only time I ever got a “free” credit score was when I applied for a loan and the loan guy just told me. lol.

You have to pay for your score. That is one way the bureaus make money. You can get a free report every year and if you are declined for something – minus the score. Someone always has to pay to get the score.
The only way I know to get it for free is if you apply for a loan some place and they are nice enough to give you a copy of your credit report when they check it – or at least tell you your score or let you look at it. You are getting your report free from the company – but remember – they have paid for your score. Some lenders don’t give away the reports – this is at their discretion.
If you are not going to take a loan for anything anytime soon, I would just buy all 3 scores direct from one of the 3 bureaus. It should come to about $35.
Good luck.

Do you mean credit score or credit report. You used both terms, but they are both different.

Depending on the state you are in, you may be entitled you a yearly free credit report, or you are entitled to one if you were turned down for credit (usually within 30-60 days after you were turned down). Go to the Trans Union, Equifax, or TRW sites, or try Truecredit.com and these sites will explain the conditions and how to get your free credit report.
