I have been trying to fix my hubby’s credit I did the free credit report and only 3 show up. I have gotten calls all of the sudden the last month from 3 different debt collectors none of which are on the credit report.
How do I find who all he owes if they are not on his credit report?
I wrote down the info the people on phone gave and tried to verify on Credit Report to see if new person bought it but nothing matches, dates, type, amount…
This is frustrating!
All the people calling are medical bills. I have only had one person who can actually give me information that I could verify. The rest CLAIM they have no other information other than date, amount, and the place we owed. I have caled the hospital and they show no record of debt, but this could be because a collector has the account now….
stan c – I have all three, there are a total of 4 items on it that are neg. None of which are who is calling. That is a good idea asking for written proof…thank you. I asked for more information on the phone and 1st person claimed to not have any…they must have some more info on it to prove it is his debt.

They could have sold the debt to another collection agency, and that new collection agency began with the collections calls.
Sounds as if these other collectors haven’t reported it to the 3 credit bureaus yet. But there is really no other way to know unless it is indeed on the credit report, or unless your husband remembers who he owes. If they can’t verify the debt your husband owes, then they need to stop all collection calls. It is not beneath collection companies to try to collect on a debt by harrassing someone else that doesn’t even owe it, they just want someone’s money, and they will do whatever they can to get it.

You won’t be able to. They will show up on the credit report eventually, in the meantime, go ahead and dispute what errors you find now, the Credit Bureaus have 30-45 days to verify or delete, by that time the new debt collectors will probably be listed on the updated credit report. Start the dispute all over again.

I am in the process of doing the same thing for my husband. When you get the free credit report from all the bureaus at. Look closely at the people who have looked at his credit. This was how I found out who he owed other then what was reported on the bureaus. I never put my phone number on the credit bureau because we have fraud protection from people using our credit. If there’s a inquiry you don’t know about call the collection agency and make sure your husband applied for what ever it is they say he owes. If it’s not his dispute it and ask to get it deleted. Trust me whatever is not on the bureau will eventually will hit the credit bureau when it’s transfered to the new collection agency. Don’t worry they will start sending letters etc.. In the meantime just call and get a settlement on what’s on his three bureaus. I hope this helps.

Did you run all 3 credit reports from annualcreditreport.com? If not, run all 3 free reports or call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228.
If there is no derogatory info on the reports, I wouldn’t worry about it. If they give you a hard time, tell them you want a written validation of the debt in question. He should put it in writing 1 regular, 1 certified. Have your husband type his name only.
