Interest Free Balance Transfers

Tom Tessin asked:

Let’s say that you have a larger car loan, or maybe a credit card that’s charging you around 19%. We all know that it’s going to feel like ages before you can pay it off. Thankfully for balance transfer cards, you’re going to find that you can transfer a balance and not pay any interest at all.

Who are balance transfer cards great for?

These cards are great for those that are looking to transfer larger balances. As long as you can pay that card off within 12 months, you should be safe. The reason I say this is because once the introductory period is up, the interest rate is going to go up like any other card, and most likely, you’re going to be paying 15%+ in interest once again.

What should I look for in a balance transfer card?

The fees - Even if it says 0%, what you’re going to want to do is make sure that there isn’t a transfer fee. Trust me, some banks will want to be sneaky. This fee can be anywhere from 1% to 10%. This is going to be a one time fee. While many banks don’t charge this, you will want to check, just to make sure!

How long? The longer you can get the introductory rate, the better it is going to be for you. You don’t want to sign up for the card and find out that the rate is going to last for 3 months. I would recommend that you find one that lasts for at least 12 month.

Are there penalties? If you don’t pay your bill for example, are they going to cancel your intro rate? What you’re going to look into is if you’re going to have to be on your best payment behavior. You don’t want to miss a payment on accident and find out that your balance transfer is cancelled.

Not only do you want to get a card that helps you with balance transfers, you’re going to potentially get a card that’s going to help you in the future.

I, personally love a card thats going to reward me. I’m going to want a card that’s going to reward me with my spending. Now you probably may be different, but don’t get it just because the balance transfer offer is great. Check out bank websites, credit card offer comparison tools, and more!

Free Credit Report – No Credit Card

Tom Allen asked:

Making sure that you have your credit report in order is absolutely vital in terms of being able to get the best deal on any type of financial product. The first step om the road is inevitably getting a copy of your report to see where you currently stand.

There are any number of places that will offer you a free credit report but you have to be careful with some of them. There has been an explosion in the last few years on the Internet of sites that will offer you a free credit report but you have to be careful as not all of them are 100% reputable.

Doing a little background research is the way to go. Fortunately the Internet is also a great place to do this research.

Once the time has arrived to look into what’s available in this specific part of the financial industry, it’s extremely important to bear in mind that quite a lot of the information that you will come across will almost certainly have originally emanated from a commercial business interests and with this as part of the process, it’s fairly obvious why it is centrally important to cross-reference your information across more than one site.

By cross-checking in this fashion with more than one source you give yourself a great opportunity of being in possession of reliable data that can help you when it is necessary to decide on what the next step should be. I do not wish to give the wrong impression as most of the companies that operate online are completely reputable but that said, it’s no harm to be on the safe side.

I need some advice with credit card?

hsalas asked:

I need advice on which cards to keep and which to close In total I have 7 Credit Cards I know for sure I want to close two of them out but would also like to know if I should do anything to the others

I have the following Cards,
Bank of America Platinum Plus, using $70 of 2,300, opened 06/07
Sears (Blue), using $350 of $1,100, opened 12/07
HSBC, 0 of $300, opened 03/08
Capital One, $100 of $750, opened 03/08
Sears MasterCard, 0 of $1,000, opened 07/08
Target, 0 of $200, opened 09/08
Sam’s Club Personal Credit, $70 of $500, opened 11/08

I also have a student loan out that deferred for $7,000

I plan to close out HSBC ( they wanted to charge $10 for a credit line increase of $100 they also have an annual fee and I think the most they will do is cut it in half) and Target because of their low credit limit and I really don’t shop at Target, just used it to get a 10% discount on some present for my mom. I don’t want to close out sears (blue) because I bought a TV on it and its interest deferred until august (I should have it paid of by april). Capital one is interest free for a year which is about to end, think I could get them to give me a good credit rate?

Do you have any suggestions for me I don’t want to open any more credit cards any time soon.
My credit score is a bit out of whack, credit companies Always report to the credit agencies when I have a high balance with them, which I think is unfair, hopefully I get lucky this upcomming report. Suggestions with that as well would be appreciated. Thank You very much for your suggestion.

P.S. I use Bank of America Privacy Assist to check my credit report it updates every 3 months. I still have money over from my student loan (I was going to use for a down payment on a car) should I use that money to pay off all the debt or should I continue doing it the way I am now, I made a budget off all my credit cards and I should have every thing paid off by february, except the sears card.

Freecreditreport.com vs truecredit.com?

Ernie asked:

Hi, I am an 19 year old college student and I don’t know much about credit lol. I had a credit card for a year now and i havent missed a payment but my balance is higher than it should be considering my limit. I never went over my limit but again, my balance could be lower. Last month my experian score was 694. Enough about me…I have been a member of freecreditreport.com for just about a month now. I got an offer to get the 3 credit reports from truecredit.com for free for 30 days. I plan on canceling it soon but I have encountered an issue of sorts. I got the 3 scores and accoring to truecredit.com my Experian score is 638. Interestingly enough, I just re-ordered/refreshed my credit report at freecreditreport.com and its showing that I have a score of 704(=D). So can someone tell me why is this so? I really hope my score is 704 and not 638 but I don’t know which score/website is more accurate. Can someone please clear this up for me? Thank you for helping me with my credit ignorance!
Just in case anyone was wondering my exquifax and transunion scores were both 649 according to truecredit.com.

Is this a reliable source of credit score?

Montana asked:

Asked this somewhere else, but am not getting any advice. Please help me if you can….

I have Identity Monitor from Citi (I have a credit card with them). One of the features of the Identity Monitor is that I can look up my credit report whenever. It tells me accurately what is on my report (it matches up with my free credit reports from those 3 agencies or whatever). So, would you say the credit score it gives me is about accurate?

Does anyone know their score more factually and have Identity monitor? are the scores the same or at least close?
