Is this a reliable source of credit score?

Montana asked:

I have Identity Monitor from Citi (I have a credit card with them). One of the features of the Identity Monitor is that I can look up my credit report whenever. It tells me accurately what is on my report (it matches up with my free credit reports from those 3 agencies or whatever). So, would you say the credit score it gives me is about accurate?

Does anyone know their score more factually and have Identity monitor? are the scores the same or at least close?
Yeah, I know about Transunion, Experian and Equifax, but I looked them up before during this year and I’m in the process of building up my credit, so I was hoping that there was an accurate source that would reflect the changes I make.

Why do you say it is/isn’t accurate? Do you use it yourself? Again I know it’ll never be right on to the point, but is it completely wrong for some reason? Sugar-coated somehow?

How to Get a Free Credit Report With The Best Companies

Emanuele Allenti asked:

Have you ever wondered how bad or good your credit score is? Most people have and now they have the ability to find out. If you want quick access to your credit score, then you should get yourself a free credit report. This is the easiest and the quickest way to obtain your credit score. A free credit report will let you check your credit score with ease; you just type in some of your information and you will be ready to start. A free credit report is what many people are using to see what their credit score is like, whether it’s good or bad: they are still seeing if it needs some repair done to it, or if they will get approved for a credit card or loan application. It is after all your information, so you should be entitled to see it.

Your free credit report can be done through many companies; just a simple search on the Internet will show you hundreds of companies willing to offer you a free credit report. After all we will all want to know how good or bad we have done with our credit scores and this is the best way to do it. A free credit report will not just let you see how good or bad you have been with your finances, but it will also give you a different view of yourself. You will see how banks and loan companies see you. Can you be trusted with finances? Your free credit report will let you know that. Being rejected for a loan or credit card is not a nice feeling, but if you know your credit score, then you will know if you can successfully apply for a loan with a different bank.

Equifax is one of the best credit report companies. Being able to obtain an Equifax free credit report was not always an easy thing to do. In fact, up until last year, only Western states were able to solicit an Equifax free credit report. But now all Americans have the opportunity to view their credit reports; and this has dramatically increased Equifax’s workload. The ruling to allow everyone the option of getting an Equifax free credit report every year was a big step to make. However, it seems to be working well and everyone is getting the chance to view his or her credit report free of charge.

Equifax, however, only has to give you one free credit report a year; and if you would like to receive another credit report, then you have to pay more money. It will usually cost about $3-$9, depending on where you live. The only exception to this rule is for those who have been denied either credit or a job or are on welfare or unemployed; in this case, you will be given another Equifax free credit report. But one option that really shows that these people care is that if your Equifax free credit report was inaccurate due to fraud, then they will send you another credit report free.

The Equifax free credit report is the best way to keep a yearly check on your credit score. You will be able to see what has happened in the year that has made it go down, or what has made it go up. It may seem weird to know that your every move is being taken down and written onto a piece of paper that you will read once a year. But that is what’s happening, and even though it may seem strange, there is nothing we can do to change it. But at least we will know why we keep getting rejected for credit cards.

Unused, 3rd credit card on credit report–Does this affect me?

Mari L asked:

When I was making plans to go to college, I decided to obtain a credit card. I heard two was safe, so I applied for two student cards from Citi. Everything went through, and I got my cards, but I decided to only keep one and not activate the other. I cut up the other one and disposed of it. Fast forward three years later (now), I have since applied and accepted what I thought was my ’2nd’ Citi card. I have been using both, and never made late payments.

Out of curiosity I finally checked my free annual credit report. I notice I have 4 accounts in good standing…And I was kind of concerned. 2 accts are the CCs I’ve been using as stated, 1 is for my federal student loans, and the other is that card I never activated.

I heard that having 3 CCs could hurt credit, and I know I should cancel my unused card officially. I haven’t checked my actual credit score but I’m worried that this 3rd card affects me. Can someone clarify this for me please?

I paid collection agency 3 years ago, but my record is still bad and no one issues me credit cards?

Alvydas asked:

In 2005, I was shopping in Macy’s (in Los Angeles, CA, USA) for a pair of shoes, one day before flying back to my native country of Lithuania. When I was paying for the shoes, the cashier suggested that I fill out a form and get $20 off the price. I did that, and flew back to Lithuania for 1 year. Speaking very little English, little did I know that I was signing up for the Macy’s credit card, and the cashier did not explain it to me (if she did, I sure did not understand it). I came back 1 year later, and to my horror found a bunch of bills from Macy’s and then bills from a collection agency. When I was explained by friend who speaks better English, what it was, I immediately paid the $20 plus a fee of $165, and the collection agency said that they will take it off my credit record. It has been 3 years since, I still can’t get a single credit card issued from any bank, and they say that I have a bad record.

I looked at my free credit reports from Experian and Equifax and they say “Charge Off as of Jun 2006”, “You have no negative accounts on file”, and “You have no Collections on file” – why then no one wants to open a credit card for me? I never had a chance to even open a single credit card in the US. What should I do now to get good credit score?

need help with credit reports?

jj asked:

i’m trying to obtain a free credit report from annualcreditreport.com. but when it takes me to each of the 3 credit websites, it tells me they are unable to verify my identity and for me to send in information verifying it. i have moved recently and had a name change. i know the credit reports i’ve had before still had my old name and address on it. i thought the information was suppose to update automatically when your creditors report to them. if i send them updated information, will they update that on their file? also, could this prevent me from being approved for credit? i tried to apply for a credit card and was declined. this is what caused me to look into this in the first place. i’ve never been late on any payments or had any trouble with things like that. could this be the reason why i was declined?
