Your Personal Credit Rating Explained

Francine Denson asked:

Your personal credit rating is considered any time you are seeking a loan or line of credit. This is what ultimately determines if you get the loan or not and if so what interest rate you will pay. For this reason, your credit rating is one of the most important numbers in your life. Having a good score can save you money while having a poor credit score will cost you dearly.

Learning your personal credit rating is not difficult. There are many services online that offer a free credit report, and some that also offer a credit score. Be aware that these are two different things. A credit report is a look at your credit history and accounts where as a credit score (also known as a FICO score) is a numerical representation of the risk you represent to a lender.

It is a good idea to keep tabs on your credit especially if you are looking to buy a home, car or even if you are seeking a job as employers are looking at this data these days as well. Another good reason to mind your credit is that you will be able to detect fraud and identity theft before it destroys your credit. Unfortunately, identity theft is becoming more and more common and it is costing innocent people countless sums of money and time.

So what can you do? Your first step is to order a free credit report with credit scores. Its very important that you choose a provider that offers the ability to see your scores and not just your report. Your scores are what lenders are mostly interested in, so you should know those as well. Some free credit report services offer this and some don’t. Your best bet is to use a comparison tool like the one linked below to find out which services offer the scores as well.

Maintaining and improving your personal credit rating is easier if you use a credit monitoring service. These are often offered as free trials when you request your credit report, so you will get a chance to see how it works before they bill you and you can decide if it’s something you want to keep or not. Overall, they are incredibly useful because they watch your credit for you and alert you to changes on your reports. This is good for those who are actively repairing their credit and also good for detecting identity theft early on before the damage sinks in.

As you can see, learning more about your credit rating is as simple as taking a look at your current credit report and credit scores. This information is available for free from a number of services and it will give you great insight in to your current borrowing power.

Credit Repair – Improve Your Credit Rating Quickly!

Rachel Altman asked:

As an American, it’s hard to walk down the street without somebody wanting to check your credit. If you have poor credit it’s important to learn techniques to improve your credit rating! Here are some of the best ways to do it:

Tip 1: It’s important to stay on top of the information game. It is your right to obtain a free credit report once every year from each of three major credit bureaus: TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. If you are really smart about it, you will get one every four months from each one by alternating. Go over these reports very carefully and look for the following:

Any negative item. You see, every negative item on your credit report can be disputed by you. If the agency cannot verify the negative claim within 30 to 45 days – even if it’s true – it must be stricken from your report!

Outdated negative items. All negative items on your credit report have a statute of limitations. After a given time period, they are supposed to drop off automatically. So, if you notice something that is 10 years old, you should dispute it immediately.

Items that have been paid in full and do not state so.

Any other item that catches your attention!

Tip 2: Start paying your bills on time. Regardless of past credit history, it’s never too late to start improving your credit rating. Pay on time every time and you will see positive changes begin to occur.

Tip 3: You should keep the balances of your credit cards below 30% of their limits or completely paid off to improve your credit rating. Max them at 30% of the actual maximum and then pay them in full every month. This is the second most important scoring variable (after making timely payments) that contributes to your credit score.

Tip 4: Break open your wallet and dig out some of those old credit cards. Use them and pay them promptly and in full. Long-standing credit accounts rate you higher than brand new ones. Keep that positive payment information flowing into the major credit reporting agencies to help to improve your credit rating.

There are many more tips and tricks that you can utilize to improve your credit rating quickly. These are the most powerful though. Use these and be diligent. You will begin to see impressive progress. Just stick to the plan and keep repeating it. It is very possible to improve your credit rating with a little effort and patience. Soon, you’ll be back at the top!

Checking Your Credit Rating For Free

Francine Denson asked:

These days more than ever, your credit rating dictates many aspects of your life. Credit reports and scores are being considered when you apply for financing to make a major purchase such as a house or car and are also being used by employers making hiring decisions. With so much emphasis on having a good credit rating, it is important that you keep tabs on your rating and scores. In this article, we will talk about how you can check your credit rating for free.

Everyone is entitled to a free credit report once per year from the Annual Credit Report Request Service. You can do this by writing to them at P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta GA 30348-5281. You will have to fill out paperwork and send it back to receive your credit report. If you are in a hurry, you should know that this process can take weeks to complete.

To check your credit for free and get the results much faster (instantly!), you should consider using one of the websites that offer this service. Just be careful, because not all of these services are the same. In fact, some of the most popular services (like the one with the catchy commercials) don’t offer you the full picture.

You see, data on your credit history is maintained by three different credit bureaus. These bureaus have different data and can assign you different scores. To get the full picture of your credit health, you should choose a credit report service that gives you access to data from all 3 bureaus. Not only that, but some sites only offer a single score, not all three unique credit scores. For help in understanding which service offers which options, please see the comparison reviews by following the link at the bottom of this article.

When you use one of these websites to acquire your scores and reports, you will probably be offered a free trial of a credit monitoring service. This is how they can afford to provide this service to everyone. If you don’t like the service, you can always cancel and not be charged. Honestly, most credit monitoring services are a worthy investment especially with identity theft on the rise. You may want to seriously consider keeping and using the service you find.

Thats about all there is to checking your credit data and doing it for free. It’s quite easy to get your hands on your report and scores. By using one of the many websites advertising a free credit report and scores, you can even access your information instantly no matter what time of day or night.

Get a Free Instant Credit Report Without a Credit Card

Ann Born asked:

Not too long ago, we had to guess at how stable our credit score and rating was. Not any longer. Now we can get a free instant credit report without a credit card. The problem is where to get it? You want to see your credit report and rating in order to understand whether it’s heading down the right road or down the tubes. But you have no idea how to go about it. For years the only people that had access to your credit report were the banks and creditors. Not anymore. You have access to your own information.

If you are looking to obtain a free credit report without a credit card, you will need to understand that it is likely to be very different from the yearly report you may already receive. The yearly report only shows your credit report status on a monthly basis with accounts that have recently been opened or closed, just the rating. Obtaining a free credit report status is a great idea for those that are already aware of their rating but would like to understand their credit score. The score is based on your entire credit history not just the month.

Obtaining a free credit report without a credit card will allow you to understanding your credit rating and credit score. You will be able to determine where you stand on the credit rating scale that the banks use. Your credit report status will help you determine your standings based on a bar of two different colors. The green section of this bar indicates a high or positive credit rating, the red side of this bar indicates poor credit rating that needs improvement. Assess your credit rating with a free instant credit report without a credit card.
