Question by Chief: You get a credit score from Transunion, Experian Equifax, out of the 3 scores how do you define your score?
out of the 3 credit scores which one is your actual score?

Best answer:

Answer by Ted
Each credit bureau has its own formula and, since all creditors do not subscribe to all bureaus, each bureau has an unique collection of data as a starting point. Then there is the fact that each bureau has multiple formulas. Which formula is used when a creditor request comes in? It’s what the creditor wants. A score that predicts a good credit card customer doesn’t necessarily predict a good car loan customer or a good mortgage customer. That’s why there are multiple formulas around. And then some places, like American Express and the major retailer that I used to serve for equitable buy the raw data and use their own internal scoring system.I know this isn’t the answer you wanted, but this really is the way t works. Sorry.

Bryan Hufford asked:

Ever wanted to improve your credit score? Don’t fall for the false internet claims of “raising your score overnight!” I’ve got 3 tips that cost nothing and will help you raise your credit score over time.

1. Make sure your credit report is accurate

Are you sure the information on your credit report is up to date? Small errors on your credit report may affect your credit score. Here’s an easy way to improve your credit score: With the Fair Credit Reporting Act in place, you are entitled to make any changes of errors that appear on your credit report. By identifying the error and submitting proof to any of the 3 credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax), you can get inaccurate items deleted from your credit report! This can help raise that FICO score!

2. Maintain balance on credit cards accounts at 30% of your limit

Credit bureaus do not like seeing your credit card accounts maxed out. It shows financial irresponsibilty. A safe percentage to have circulating each month on your credit card balance is 30% of your credit limit. If your credit card balances are higher than 30% of your credit limit, pay down the balance so it remains at 30% or lower of your credit limit. This will also help raise your FICO score.

3. Make payments on time each month and every month thereafter

Your FICO score is based on the past 2 years of payment history on any credit card or installment accounts. Making one late payment on any account can lower your score significantly. By making timely payments each month, you can increase your credit score over time.

These are just 3 simple tips that cost nothing that can help raise your credit score over time. I hope you’ve found them helpful in your quest in gaining a better credit history.

Teresa

Paul Sarwana asked:

Many people often wonder how they can raise their credit score. It is actually easier than most people think. There are many different steps you can take for improving your overall credit rating. Here are three essential steps you can take:

1. Obtain Copies of Your Credit Report

One of the first steps to increase your credit score is to obtain copies of your current credit status from the three main credit reporting agencies. As the three major credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and Transunion may have different items on their reports you will want to compare them and thoroughly look over them.

Make sure that there are no errors or mistakes on the report that could be bringing your credit score down. Checking over your three credit reports will also give you a full understanding of where you stand and how much work you will need to do for your credit score improvement.

2. Make All of Your Payments on Time

Another way to raise your credit score is to make all of your payments on time. If you currently have any open loans or credit cards with balances, be sure that you make the full payment on time. Always make any and all payments by their given due date because anytime you make a late payment, it affects your overall credit score.

As well, work to pay off your credit cards and loans. You can simply do this by paying off the smallest credit card balance first and then working your way up the ladder. The less you owe on credit cards and loans, the higher your score will be.

3. Obtain or Not to Obtain a New Credit Card

While trying to boost your credit score, you will not want to obtain any new credit cards or loans. The more available credit you have available, the lower your score can become. Stick with the current credit cards you have, as well as work to pay them off as soon as possible.

If you are trying to repair your bad credit and currently do not have any open credit cards or loans, then you may want to obtain a credit card with a small credit limit. Each month you can put a small amount on the card. After you have had the card for a while and have made the monthly payments on time, your credit score will begin to improve.

So, whether you are starting from scratch or have damaged your credit rating, you can take some simple steps to raise your credit rating. The harder you work on improving your score, the quicker and easier it will happen. And before you know it, you will have the good credit score you desire.

Franklin

Adam Tijerina asked:

Due to the recent credit crisis and housing collapse leading rules have changed dramatically. Despite historically low mortgage rates, most people cannot qualify for them without a really good credit score. This is why it is very important to get your free credit scores and know where you stand and know where you have to improve to get the lowest mortgage rate.

So where can you get free credit scores?

Several sites now offer free “credit scores” which are based off of scoring formulas similar to the national credit bureau formulas at TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. The accuracy of these scores is debatable. Comments on a recent Wall Street Journal article stated these scores are not reliable when it comes to mortgages and refinancing.

These sites are credit.com, creditkarma.com and quizzle.com. They can provide you with an estimated score range instead of an exact score and you can expect loads of advertisements all over the site with many offers you are encouraged to sign up for.

Why doesn’t the government provide free credit scores in addition to free credit reports?

The easy answer is they were not part of the arrangements with the credit reporting agencies who are now required by law to provide them for free. They are only required to provide your free credit reports and that’s just what they do. They can still make money selling you the credit scores and that’s just what they do.

You can expect to pay around $8-$10 for each credit score so that’s around $24-$30 each time you want to check your scores. And then the experts tell you to check them every few months so you can easily spend over hundred dollars over the course of a year.

So where does that leave you?

You can go to sites that you see advertised on TV and sign up to get your free credit reports and scores from all three credit reporting agencies.

Doing this will allow you to monitor your credit score on an ongoing basis so you can check your credit worthiness in less than a minute instead of having to sift through 20 to 30 pages of your credit reports trying to decode all the abbreviations.

Getting your free credit scores this way does not lower your score because it is a soft inquiry instead of a hard inquiry which can lower your score. And you will be able to keep track of any suspicious activity in your credit report that could affect your score or result in identity theft.

Carla

Khan Paki Gee asked:

The entire 3 credit scores play part as unequivocal agents of a person’s monetary status. The majority of the loan organizations, owners and landlords inspect the credit marking to form an opinion how you have been running your capital prior to joining any sort of deal with you. As a result, it is fairly significant to be knowledgeable about what your 3 credit scores are from the 3 credit departments; Transunion, Experian & Equifax furthermore, take measures to fix any matters on your credit details to get better the markings.

We at this time take a look at the aspects which have an effect on all the 3 credit grades as well as the aspects which do not have any impression on the scores.

Aspects that do not have an effect on the credit score are:

Utility bill disbursements do not influence credit marking on the contrary if you do not reimburse these bills plus they enlist collected works in that case it will be trouble for you. The financial credit is not measured in markings if not particular check bounces as well as is converted into collection. Rental fee is not portion of the credit score as well but if rent is debased plus it is converted into a ruling or collection in that case it will turn out to be portion of the credit details furthermore measured in your 3 credit grading. Insurance disbursements do not have an effect on credit total result. Medical fees disbursements are not portion of credit rating unless these are kept due as well as go into collections.

A number of most important aspects that 3 do have a bearing on credit ratings are mortgage disbursements, law-breaking, foreclosure, credit card evasion, overdue disbursements, collections, various great disbursements plus charge offs. You have to confirm your credit report on a regular basis to make sure what is on it moreover, take measures to take out things that you feel you have previously disbursed and are even now viewing on your financial credit.

Julia

Emma Becker asked:

Annual credit report request form is required by an individual when he wants to check his credit ratings. It is very essential to avail the annual report due to numerous reasons the prominent among them is the detection of identity thefts. It is also a fact that the issues of fraudulence would also get wiped off if each and every citizen initiates to check the annual credit report without fail.

Is it necessary to check the Annual Credit Report?

Well the answer is yes. The report would actually act as the gateway which would help you to fulfill all your wishes without any fail. As a matter of fact, if you possess good status then your can lay your hands on the best loan programs and avail the best rates of interest. Furthermore, checking the status before applying for a loan would also help you to rectify your score by 50-100 points as there are many easy methods of doing so.

How to request for your 3 Credit Scores in 1 report for free?

Americans are actually entitled to avail free credit reports from the three major bureaus every year. The three national bureaus i.e., Equifax, Transunion and Experian provide free copy of report to the consumers once in every twelve months. It is also a fact that the reports of these three national bureaus are not necessarily the same. You are actually required to check all the three reports to make sure that you are maintaining a good profile. Moreover, a healthy profile would help you to grab the best loan programs and that too at the best rates. This is particularly because the lenders before approving the loan check the status to analyze how the consumer has utilized his credit in the past.

As per the 2003 Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) a consumer is entitled to get a report from all the three major bureaus at least once in a year. Moreover, these reports would just add to your advantage. Now in order to request for 3 fico scores in 1 report for free one can seek the support of the Online medium. It would definitely help you to get a clear idea of your status and offer you the scope to rectify it at ease.

Herbert

Tim Delamatter asked:

Introduction To Credit Restoration

Rebuilding Damaged Credit

Bad credit can happen to good people. Don’t despair.

As you do so, your credit score will improve, resulting in better credit offers and a substantial savings in money.

With patience and timely repayments, you’ll likely be able to build a new credit history that creditors will look upon favorably when making decisions about your ability to handle even more credit.

The key to having great credit is to understand the factors that can hurt your Credit Score or Rating.

Bankruptcies, tax liens, judgments, student loans, credit counseling, numerous inquiries, repossessions, collections, late payments and charge-offs bring your score down and hinder your chances of obtaining a new loan.

How It Works

Pull 3 separate credit reports from the 3 credit reporting agencies, Experian, Transunion, and Equifax, and dispute any and all negative items.

The entire dispute process is done online and does not generate any inquiries or put any negative marks on your credit report.

What to Expect

Results can be expected within 30 – 45 days and are mailed directly to you from the 3 credit reporting agencies.

Once these results are received, you can dispute any remaining items you find on your Credit Rating, usually the results from any disputes can be reached within the 30-45 days it takes to receive your report.

Why Your Credit Score is So Important

The credit scoring model seeks to quantify the likelihood of a consumer to pay off debt without being more than 90 days late at any time in the future.

Credit scores can range between a low score of 350 and a high score of 850.

The higher the score, the better it is for the consumer, because a high credit score translates into a low interest rate.

This can save literally thousands of dollars in financing fees over the life of the loan.

Only one out of 1,300 people in the United States have a credit score above 800. These are
people that get the best interest rates, it is a small minority.

On the other hand, one out of every eight prospective home buyers is faced with the possibility that they may not qualify for the home loan they want because they have a score falling between 500 and 600.

Mortgage lenders consider a score of 700 or above to be very good.

The Five Factors of Credit Scoring

1. Payment History- 35% Impact

2. Outstanding Credit Balances- 30% Impact

3. Credit History- 15% Impact

4. Type of Credit- 10% Impact

5. Inquiries- 10% Impact

Once your Credit Rating is on track, you can buy that house, buy the car you always thought you never could have, you can get a credit card to feel safe when that crunch at the end of the month comes.

Your Credit rating doesn’t have to be a ball and chain around your neck. Just follow these easy steps and in six months you’ll be on your way to Credit rating bliss.

Connie

I know that FICO is probably the biggest credit score service is their number that much different than what I’d get from the credit score source that Equifax, Experian and TransUnion use?

I just don’t want to pay so much more for nothing. If FICO says my Experian credit score is 700 and I go to Experian.com and their service says my score is 692, I don’t see the difference.

Thanks.

Nathan

lamontsmith13 asked:

I’m 33 years old and in the process of rebuilding my credit from my reckless youth.
I know the score has gone up some in the last few months and my ultimate goal is home ownership so I would like to monitor them.

I went to myFICO.com but I believe that is a one-time kind of report/score. I’m looking for updated monitoring. Does anyone know of a RELIABLE company that will do this for me?

Thanks.

Cecil
